Sanatorium
Sanatorium
Built at the edge of an estuary, a few kilometers from Odessa in Ukraine, the sanatorium of Kuyalnik is bicentennial. The first buildings, erected in the 1800s, were completed from 1970 by Soviet constructions. The pyramid with golden facets, which houses the pool, is a pure example of the USSR architecture.
Every morning at 10am, in the pool, there is the water aerobics class. The haughty port, the instructor does the 100 steps and gives the tempo: elbows lifted, knees bended, scissors, rotation of the glutes. What a strange ballet! These little rats looks more like those of the Hamelin flute player than those of the opera. Except that they cannot drown: the salt concentration is equivalent to the concentration of the Dead Sea. Consequence of this high salinity on bathers: the bodies float!
Position of Yoga. Plank pose. Nothing works, the body envelope goes inexorably to the surface.
Water from the estuary has many healing properties, as well as the mud that is collected at the bottom of the water and stored in summer for use all year round. Hydrotherapy & Pelotherapy are therefore combined to cure various ailments. Nerve inflammation, joint problem, stress, depression, hormonal disease ... The list is long. The renovations to do too. The center is in a shabby state. The floor is decrepit, the metals are rusting and the rehabilitation instruments are archaic. Despite this, Ukrainians and Belorussians love these treatments and nearly 10,000 people a year come in Kuyalnik.
